Despicable Me

Despicable Me falls somewhere in the middle range of animated films targeted at kids, featuring none of the delirious wit of How to Train Your Dragon and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and certainly not the outright Pixar genius, but also absent the mindless pandering and obvious plotting we all fear in children's films. With a smart concept, some clever gags and well-choreographed action it moves along nicely, but it also squanders considerable voice talent and doesn't really take advantage of the twisted world it successfully creates. You get the feeling that a darker and more clever Despicable Me may have existed at some point before the studio, still trying to break into the animated market, defaulted to the safe side.

As Gru, a hunched supervillain conducting all his plots from the suburbs for some reason, Steve Carell uses a constricted German accent to great effect, abandoning his typical Michael Scott comic persona for someone even more insecure and struggling. Gru gets the big idea to steal the moon after new kid in town Vector (Jason Segel) starts upstaging him with dastardly deeds of his own, but Gru's plan is foiled when the Bank of Supervillains (formerly Lehman Brothers) won't float him a loan. Making matters worse, Gru's flashy new rival Vector steals the shrink ray Gru needed to capture the moon, and now all the evening news reports focus on Vector, with poor Gru stuck abusing his freeze ray and popping childrens' balloons for his evil deeds. For pretty flimsy reasons Gru decides that the only way to steal back his shrink ray is to adopt a trio of orphan girls, whom he plans to use as bait and otherwise ignore while locking them in the kitchen and tinkering away in his underground lair.

The girls-- voiced by Disney star Miranda Cosgrove, Elsie Fisher and Dana Gaier-- have other plans, of course, and slowly go about melting Gru's heart even when he'd rather skip the bedtime stories and let them walk to ballet class. Gru's developing relationship with the girls doesn't fit all that well with the supervillain rivalry plot, and the script by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul bounces somewhat haphazardly between family bonding and Gru's scheming in the basement. Each has their moments-- a trip to the amusement park is fun and funny, and a heist at Vector's house is pure well-executed tension-- but you miss the airtight script of a Pixar or DreamWorks Animation film, or even a plot that doesn't feel utterly predictable from moment to moment. It's also a shame to see all kinds of other talent, including Russell Brand as Gru's elderly lab assistant and Kristen Wiig as the meanie orphanage manager, either shoved to the sidelines or forgotten about entirely by the scattered script.

Adding insult to injury, an incomprehensible amount of screen time goes to Gru's minions, those little globular yellow guys in the overalls who scurry around Gru's lab doing all kinds of jobs and bear the brunt of the film's physical comedy. Clearly the studio and directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud think they've come across gold here, but the minions never develop distinct personalities or even meaning within the plot, popping up from time to time to be cute but, like all the other disjointed plots, never amounting to much. The focus on the minions, so disproportionate to their actual quality as characters, speaks again to the disorganization of Despicable Me, a movie with a few good ideas and vocal performances and no idea where to go with them.

Hobby

A hobby is a man's favorite occupation other than his main business. A man may find time after his usual daily work. He may spend that time in doing something which gives him special pleasure and adds to his knowledge. It is called his hobby. He may like to spend this time in gardening, collecting stamps, drawing pictures, playing some games, rearing birds, catching fish, taking photographs, etc. These are all hobbies.

A hobby gives pleasure as well as instruction. It does not allow a man to be idle. A man who has a hobby does not spend his spare time in idleness. He occupies himself in some useful work. His knowledge increases. If he likes gardening, he will have to know something about flowers and plant life. Working in the garden will be a sort of physical exercise and thus it will improve his health. A flower garden with blooming flowers is a very fine thing. It gives joy to the man who owns it as well as to others who see it. The hobby occupies his mind so much that no evil thought can find room there. Sometimes it is also a profitable thing.

I am very fond of collecting postage stamps.I have also other sources of getting stamps. Some of my friends exchange stamps with me. I have got a book to preserve the stamps. After my lessons are done, if I can make time, I arrange the stamps that I get and stick them in an album in their proper places. I have now a very good collection of stamps. There are some very rare stamps among them. At present their value is very great. I purchase stamps at times from dealers in old stamps. I have got stamps of many countries of the world.

This hobby has increased my knowledge of history and geography very much. Now I know the names of countries which were formerly unknown to me. In the stamps of many countries there are pictures of special things of interest of these places. So I can know what special things are found there. From an Australian stamp, we can know that the kangaroo is a peculiar animal of the country. From an Egyptian stamp, we can know that the famous pyramids are situated in Egypt.

We can also know the names of many kings and famous persons. Since the independence of India, many new postage stamps have been issued by our Government on many occasions. We can learn many things from those stamps Conclusion—The collector of stamps is called a philatelist. We have heard that many famous persons of the world, including some kings of England, had this hobby of collecting postage stamps. Every man should have a hobby of this own.

Teddy Bear

Some girl like to shopping, some like to collect handbag, some like to buy Barbie doll. While boys like to collect stamp, coins, and even games cards.

I likes to collect teddy bear. For me, teddy bear is very cute to me since I was small. It is a soft toy that got story about it.

The name Teddy Bear comes from former United States President Theodore Roosevelt, who was commonly known as "Teddy" (though he loathed being referred to as such).The name originated from an incident on a bear hunting trip in Mississippi in November 1902, to which Roosevelt was invited by Mississippi Governor Andrew H. Longino. There were several other hunters competing, and most of them had already killed an animal. A suite of Roosevelt's attendants, led by Holt Collier, cornered, clubbed, and tied an American Black Bear to a willow tree after a long exhausting chase with hounds. They called Roosevelt to the site and suggested that he should shoot it. He refused to shoot the bear himself, deeming this unsportsmanlike, but instructed that the bear be killed to put it out of its misery,and it became the topic of a political cartoon by Clifford Berryman in The Washington Post on November 16, 1902.While the initial cartoon of an adult black bear lassoed by a handler and a disgusted Roosevelt had symbolic overtones, later issues of that and other Berryman cartoons made the bear smaller and cuter.
Morris Michtom saw the drawing of Roosevelt and was inspired to create a new toy. He created a little stuffed bear cub and put it in his shop window with a sign that read "Teddy's bear," after sending a bear to Roosevelt and receiving permission to use his name. The toys were an immediate success and Michtom founded the Ideal Novelty and Toy Co.

At the same time in Germany, the Steiff firm, unaware of Michtom's bear, produced a stuffed bear from Richard Steiff's designs. Steiff exhibited the toy at the Leipzig Toy Fair in March 1903, where it was seen by Hermann Berg, a buyer for George Borgfeldt & Company in New York. He ordered 3000 to be sent to the United States. Although Steiff's records show that the bears were produced, they are not recorded as arriving in the U.S., and no example of the type, "55 PB", has ever been seen, leading to the story that the bears were shipwrecked. However, the story is disputed - Gunther Pfieffer notes that it was only recorded in 1953 and says it is more likely that the 55 PB was not sufficiently durable to survive until the present day. Although Steiff and Michtom were both making teddy bears at around the same time, neither would have known of the other's creation due to poor transatlantic communication.

By 1906 manufacturers other than Michtom and Steiff had joined in and the craze for "Roosevelt Bears" was such that ladies carried them everywhere, children were photographed with them, and Roosevelt used one as a mascot in his bid for re-election.

North American educator Seymour Eaton wrote the children's book series The Roosevelt Bears, while composer John Walter Bratton wrote an instrumental "The Teddy Bears' Picnic", a "characteristic two-step", in 1907, which later had words written to it by lyricist Jimmy Kennedy in 1932.
Early teddy bears were made to look like real bears, with extended snouts and beady eyes. Modern teddy bears tend to have larger eyes and foreheads and smaller noses, babylike features that enhance the toy's cuteness. Teddy bears are also manufactured to represent different species of bear, such as polar bears and grizzly bears, as well as pandas.

While early teddy bears were covered in tawny mohair fur, modern teddy bears are manufactured in a wide variety of commercially available fabrics, most commonly synthetic fur, but also velour, denim, cotton, satin, and canvas.

Teddy bears are among the most popular gifts for children and are often given to adults to signify love, congratulations, or sympathy.

Music

Music is one of the most important and powerful things in my life. My life without melodies and harmonies would be totally empty. Listening to and playing different tunes helps me to destress, relax and it can also help to motivate me in trying times. I love listening to music while on my way to school, as I feel it helps me to prepare for the day that waits. I think it is like the memoirs to my life as it has been there throughout everything with me. 

"Music is the key to your soul." How many times have you heard a song and you are suddenly transformed back to the place you first heard it or shared it with another person? A musical melody can trigger thoughts and memories of a favorite place, person or event.

Music is a universal language that can be shared with people everywhere. This is one of the many reasons I am passionate about sharing my God-given talent with people in different venues, including concert halls, churches, people's homes or stages.

When I was younger, I didn’t have the great love for musical as I do now. I mainly listened to whatever was playing in the background or what my parents were listening to. I didn’t have much of a care for musical compositions. There was sometimes a little bit of pop music thrown in to the mix here and there, but that’s really all I liked back then. Whether I was in the car, the house, or anywhere else there was sure to be some Beatles, Buddy Holly, or the Dubliners constantly playing somewhere in the background. At the time I didn’t care for that genre of music much, but now as I’m older, I enjoy it as it allows me to reminisce on memories from times of my childhood. Once I hit my teenage years music became my life and gradually started to inhibit my soul. 

I believe music has the ability to convey all sorts of emotion. Whether the emotion is joy and happiness or sadness and despair through rhythms, harmonies and the lyrics music shows it. The song “A little bit longer” by Nick Jonas is such an emotional and inspiring song that when I hear it, I always come close to tears, especially when I watch it being played live. The effect that music can have on our emotions is tremendous, as it can bring people to floods of tears or bursts of laughter.
The musical images that music and song are able to create are amazing. Music has the ability to transport me back in time just like a time machine. It lets me revisit lost and forgotten moments in life. Songs can paint a picture, for example in classical and country music where a story is being told. The music in classical music tells a story without lyrics which is an immensely powerful thing. I feel that this applies to the saying “music imitates life and life imitates music”.

Recently song writing has wandered its way into my life. I believe there is no better way to express myself than through song. After a bad day, it’s nice to be able to sit down and write about it. It can make all your problems just disappear and float away. Listening to other musical artists that I like gives me inspiration. My guitar teacher also points me in the right direction and gives me guidance as I need it. I love to just sit with my guitar and make up random lyrics about past experiences or what I’m going through at the moment.

I believe music effects people in many different ways. To me music is more than just something to listen to or play, it’s something to feel. Music is extremely important in my life. I think it brings me closer to my friends and family. I also feel that it helps me to get through things. For example, I remember doing the twenty six kilometre gaisce hike and the whole way along the hike we sang songs. Music is an immensely powerful thing and has a huge place in my life right next to my heart.

Menurut Kamus Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, hobi dapat didefinisikan sebagai aktiviti kegemaran yang dilakukan pada waktu senggang dan bukan merupakan pekerjaan utama. Peribahasa rambut sama hitam tapi hati lain-lain menunjukkan bahawa setiap individu mempunyai hobi yang berbeza-beza dan tersendiri. Sebagai analoginya, ada yang suka bersukan, ada yang minat mengumpul setem, ada juga yang gemar mendaki gunung dan pelbagai hobi yang lain. Persoalannya, mengapakah setiap insan di dunia ini perlu mempunyai hobi? Sesungguhnya semua orang mempunyai alasan tersendiri yang menyebabkan mereka melakukan hobi yang digemari itu.

Menurut pandangan saya, hobi memang sewajarnya dimiliki oleh semua orang tanpa mengira usia, pangkat dan keturunan. Memang tidak dapat dinafikan bahawa aktiviti positif seumpama ini banyak memberikan maslahat dalam kehidupan setiap insan. Tidak terkecuali saya, yang turut memperoleh kebaikan daripada hobi yang saya lakukan. Oleh hal yang demikian, faedah-faedah hobi yang mewarnai fokus perbincangan akan dikupas dengan lebih terperinci.

Pada realitinya, memang tidak dapat dinafikan bahawa hobi juga dapat menambahkan ilmu pengetahuan saya yang sedia ada. Sebagaimana yang kita ketahui, hobi seperti membaca, melayari internet dan menonton televisyen dapat membantu meningkatkan pengetahuan am seseorang. Selain itu, saya juga dapat menguasai kemahiran dalam melakukan aktiviti harian seperti memasak dan melukis. Sebagai contoh, aktiviti mengait yang telah saya praktikkan dari hari ke hari dapat meningkatkan kemahiran saya lagi dan akhirnya dapat menghasilkan sesuatu karya kreatif yang menarik seperti peribahasa sehari selembar benang, lama-lama menjadi kain. Bukan itu sahaja, saya juga dapat menambakan ilmu pengetahuan apabila menonton rancangan dokumentari di televisyen seperti Majalah 3 dan ‘Insect War’. Bahkan, dalam zaman yang serba canggih ini, saya juga boleh mendapatkan informasi yang saya perlukan dengan mudah melalui internet. Maka, jelaslah bahawa dengan mempunyai hobi yang tertentu dapat membantu saya dalam menambahkan ilmu pengetahuan dan meningkatkan penguasaan serta kemahiran diri dalam pelbagai bidang karya kreatif.

Lanjutan daripada huraian yang telah dinyatakan di atas, saya menjadikan hobi saya untuk mengisi masa lapang dengan aktiviti yang berfaedah. Bertitik tolak daripada itu, masa senggang saya digunakan untuk bermain badminton, berjoging dan membaca buku. Hal ini secara tidak langsung menghindarkan diri saya daripada aktiviti kurang sihat dan bergaul dengan rakan yang mempunyai masalah sosial. Contoh yang boleh diketengahkan ialah remaja yang sedang mencari identiti diri dan mengalami kecelaruan jiwa akan mudah terlibat dalam aktiviti merempit, melepak dan pergaulan bebas kerana mereka tidak mempunyai matlamat hidup seperti layang-layang yang terputus talinya. Dalam konteks ini, dengan adanya hobi, masa saya tidak disia-siakan dan tidak terbiar begitu sahaja kerana masa itu emas yang perlu diisi dengan aktiviti yang berfaedah. Bukan itu sahaja, dengan mempunyai hobi dapat mengelakkan diri saya daripada berasa bosan dalam mengharungi kehidupan seharian di alam fana ini. Konklusinya, hobi dapat memenuhi masa lapang saya dengan pelbagai aktiviti yang bermanfaat.

Suatu hakikat yang tidak boleh dikesampingkan adalah apabila saya mempunyai hobi, saya dapat mengekalkan kesihatan fizikal dan mental. Hobi yang sering saya lakukan untuk mengekalkan kesihatan fizikal dan mental adalah dengan mendaki gunung dan berjoging. Dengan melaksanakan hobi ini, daya tahan kardiovaskular dapat ditingkatkan. Hal ini secara tidak langsung, dapat meningkatkan imuniti badan saya daripada sebarang jangkitan penyakit seperti demam, selesema dan batuk. Hal ini seterusnya dapat membantu saya melaksanakan aktiviti harian secara efektif kerana badan cergas, otak cerdas. Lanjutan daripada huraian yang telah dinyatakan di atas, apabila saya memanfaatkan masa saya dengan hobi yang saya gemari secara tidak langsung dapat mengurangkan stres. Hal ini adalah kerana, apabila saya melakukan hobi, saya akan menumpukan sepenuh perhatian terhadap aktiviti tersebut dan bukannya memikirkan masalah kehidupan yang kadang kala membebankan minda saya. Bagi membuktikan perkara ini, apabila saya membaca novel, saya akan leka dengan mesej yang ingin disampaikan oleh novelis, sehingga melupakan masalah yang membelenggu sukma buat seketika. Tegasnya, dengan mempunyai hobi saya dapat kepuasan diri kerana melakukan sesuatu aktiviti yang digemari dan membebaskan diri daripada sebarang masalah yang menghimpit kalbu.

Ramai yang mulai sedar bahawa hobi juga dapat mengeratkan hubungan silaturahim antara sesama insan. Hobi bukan sekadar dalam lingkungan dunia individu sahaja malah dapat dilakukan secara berkumpulan. Sebagai contoh, hobi yang boleh dilakukan secara berkumpulan seperti mengulang kaji pelajaran, bermain boling dan melancong bersama dengan keluarga. Melalui komunikasi dua hala, secara tidak langsung bukan sahaja dapat merapatkan hubungan silaturahim malahan juga dapat mewujudkan kemesraan lantas memupuk kerjasama antara satu sama lain. Dalam hal ini, nilai saling membantu dan bekerjasama yang termaktub sebagai nilai yang ke-35 dalam Pendidikan Moral dapat dipraktikkan. Perpaduan juga turut dapat dilahirkan apabila masyarakat yang terdiri daripada multietnik terlibat dalam hobi yang sama, visi kudsi Wawasan 2020 sudah pasti dapat direalisasikan. Deduksinya, hobi mendatangkan faedah yang amat bermakna dalam mengaribkan perhubungan antara sesama insan. 

Lontaran idea yang seterusnya, sejak kecil lagi saya suka menyanyi. Ibu bapa telah dapat mengesan bakat yang ada pada diri saya lalu mereka menghantar saya untuk menghadiri kelas muzik. Hinggalah ke hari ini, saya masih suka menyanyi dan tidak dapat dipisahkan dengan aktiviti yang berkaitan dengan muzik bak kata P.Ramlee, lagu dan irama tidak dapat dipisahkan. Sambil menyelam minum air, hobi yang saya pilih sebenarnya dapat mengembangkan dan mengasah bakat saya dalam bidang muzik. Saya juga akan menggunakan masa terluang untuk bermain alat muzik seperti piano. Sesungguhnya, hobi ini telah mengembangkan potensi diri saya yang telah sedia ada. Dengan menyertai sesuatu pertandingan nyanyian, saya akan memperoleh pengalaman baru. Saya juga berlatih menyanyi dengan tekun dan bersungguh-sungguh supaya saya dapat memenangi sesuatu pertandingan kerana saya tahu jika tidak dipecahkan ruyung manakan dapat sagunya. Meraih tempat pertama dalam pertandingan yang saya sertai bagaikan orang haus diberi air, orang lapar diberi nasi. Ibu bapa dan pihak sekolah turut berbangga dengan kejayaan saya. Kejayaan dalam pertandingan yang disertai dan pengalaman baharu yang ditimba ini telah memantapkan , meningkatkan kemahiran serta memberikan keyakinan dalam diri saya untuk mencari nafas baru dalam kehidupan melalui hobi yang diminati.

Perbincangan saya telah meniti ke puncaknya, maka sebagai akhirulkalam hobi banyak mendatangkan faedah kepada segenap strata masyarakat. Oleh itu, saya akan berhati-hati seperti menarik rambut di dalam tepung, rambut tidak putus tepung tidak berselerak dengan menguruskan masa untuk hobi dan pelajaran saya dengan bijaksana. Selanjutnya, saya juga akan mengelakkan diri daripada melayari laman sesawang yang berunsur negatif agar mental dan jiwa saya tidak goyah dek nafsu yang bermaharajalela . Pada pendapat saya, ibu bapa hendaklah menggalakkan anak-anak mempunyai hobi sejak kecil lagi kerana melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya. Hal ini demikian kerana anak-anak umpama sebutir batu permata yang belum digilap, ibu bapalah yang bertanggungjawab menggilapnya sehingga menjadi berlian yang indah nan berkilau. Remaja yang berkembang baik dari psikologi dan fisiologi akan menjadi tulang belakang dalam memacu kegemilangan negara kelak. Marilah kita memikul tanggungjawab bersama-sama untuk merealisasikan visi kudsi Wawasan 2020 supaya negara kita dapat berdiri sama tinggi, duduk sama rendah dengan negara-negara maju yang lain.

Nama saya ialah Tan Soo Chien.Saya berasal dari Taiping,Perak dan dilahirkan pada 6 Mei 1994.Pendidikan awal saya bermula di Taiping sehingga pendidikan menengah saya sampai tingkatan 3 di SMJK Hua Lian Taiping.Selepas itu,saya menyambung pendidikan menengah tinggi saya di Sekolah Menengah Perempuan Perak Ipoh.Saya mengambil jurusan sains tulen pada masa itu.Seterusnya,kehidupan pra-universiti saya bermula di Sekolah Menengah Raja Perempuan Ipoh.Ini kerana sekolah menengah saya sebelum ini tidak ada penawaran pra-universiti oleh itu semua akan diagihkan ke sekolah ini yang hanya 2 kilometer dari sekolah menengah dahulu.

Saya merupakan pelajar lepasan STPM aliran sastera.Subjek yang diambil semasa tingkatan 6 adalah Pengajian Am,Pengajian Perniagaan,Ekonomi dan Sejarah.Mengapa saya ambil subjek Sejarah?Ini kerana saya minat akan sejarah.Bagi pendapat saya,sejarah merupakan satu pendekatan yang baik untuk generasi muda.Generasi muda dapat belajar daripada peristiwa yang lain dan mendapat pengajaran daripadanya.Selain itu,sejarah dapat memberi peluang untuk saya memahami kebudayaan dan peristiwa negara-negara lain.Contohnya,sejarah negara dunia seperti Perancis.Bagi saya,negara Perancis ialah sebuah negara yang romatik dan mempunyai banyak tempat bersejarah Malahan,saya suka belajar sejarah tanpa menghafal mati-matian.Saya akan baca berulang-ulang untuk memahami cerita,perisitiwa dan konsep sejarah secara teliti.

Harapan saya pada ukm adalah dapat membuat terbaik dalam semua subjek dan menamatkan pengajian saya secara cemerlang agar membanggakan ibu bapa saya yang bertungkus lumus sepanjang 20 tahun ini.Ibu bapa saya memang terbaik dan cemerlang.Oleh itu,saya akan belajar bersungguh-sungguh dan menamatkan pengajian secara cemerlang,itulah satu-satu balasan yang dapat saya melakukan.
