Ipoh Wall Art 1

Ipoh, my beloved hometown, is usually known for its heritage and good food. And maybe pretty girls – that’s just about it.

But now, there’s a new attraction in town, called the “Art of Oldtown“, which is the latest collection of Ipoh Wall Art Murals by Ernest Zacharevic , the same man who painted murals on walls along the streets of Penang’s Georgetown.

There are currently 7 spots around Ipoh Old Town. Therefore, during my recent trip back, I’ve decided to scout for the locations of the murals.

It’s simple to find them, as long as you’re good with maps and roads.

So here are the 7 Ipoh wall art murals locations with the exact road names and GPS coordinates.

OLD UNCLE WITH COFFEE CUP

The mural shows a portrait of an old uncle drinking coffee. It’s located nearby the famous franchise OldTown White Coffee eatery facing the Ipoh Field.
Road Name: Jalan Dato Maharajalela
GPS: 4.59787,101.076169
PAPER PLANE
Nearby the first mural, just walk further down the road from Oldtown White Coffee and the Paper Plane mural can be seen. It shows 2 children enjoying their childhood with a paper plane.

Road Name: Jalan Sheikh Adam
GPS: 4.597715,101.076882

KOPI “O”
This mural can be reached if you continued to walk along the road adjacent to Ipoh Field and across the main road. Kopi “O”, despite being black coffee, is one of the murals to celebrate Ipoh as the birth of the famous white coffee.
Road Name: Jalan Tun Sambathan
GPS: 4.597151,101.078703

Holidays

In this past holidays, my family and I went back to our hometown, the eagerly-awaited holidays bring a respite from homework, lessons, extracurricular activities and exams. For me, spending a holiday at home is equally unbearable.

0n the last day of class,  I  eagerly waited for the bell to ring at 11.00am.. Then, I felt like a caged bird hat has just been set free. I slang my bag over my shoulder and make a beeline for the bust station. My hometown,Taiping!

We started our journey early in the morning. When we arrived, we had a quick lunch. I make a short exchange and headed for my favourite spot here- a secluded corner of my uncle durian orchards. There under a shady spot, I sat down a surveyed the surroundings.

Here, far away from claustrophobic classrooms, rushing crowds, busy sidewalks and congested streets, I enjoyed the solitude of nature. As I took my seat on a flimsy woody bench, and looked around me, I can see a flurry of activities. Birds flew gracefully and noiselessly above me while bees traveled flirtatiously from tree to tree, colourful butterflies flit about here and there flapping their fragile wings and ants scurry in a single file carrying bits of food on their tiny backs.

A soft cool breeze blowed. I can hear the soft rustle of leaves. The air is heavy with the scent of shrubs and grasses coupled with the scent of ripe durians.

I lied on my back with my hand clasped behind my head and watched streaks of sunlight filtering through the canopy of leaves. Soon I fall into short but deep slumber. When I woke up, I can see the sun slowly descending behind a row of far hills. Although I would love to linger for a little longer, I loves holidays.
